Tool - 1997 July 8th - Boston, MA, USA
Rumor has it, an unknown analog recording of this exists as well. This may make sense as there is virtually no source information to be found regarding this show. There is a layer of fuzz which may mean this was transferred from the video or a cassette transfer. A slight brick wall and a distant sound compounded with the taper + friends singing along = something best left for collectors. The crowd is a bit loud & seems to overpower the music every now & then. Not a bad show, but not a great one; sound wise. The performance, on the other hand, is of a standard par with other '97 performances but yet like all Lollapalooza gigs, there is a sense of this band just going out there, doing their thing & calling it a day while also making a subtle statement. Interesting stuff. The setlist is rather intriguing as well, I think. Would love to hear something like that today live...
Notes: Beware of random VHS>DVD transfers of this. The taper put this to DVD from the Master in 2003/2004 & is much better quality than any previous installment I, at least, have witnessed. Very nice.

Tool - 1994 July 10th - Cour, Belgium
Super clear recording. Sounds almost like sound board quality with the exception of a slight mess up in Swamp Song with the mics or a sloppy master. The recording fades out very fast then back in; maybe 7-8 seconds of a possible cut = taper changed cassettes. Hard to complain though; this show is fucking amazing, all around. Excellent setlist & quite possibly the best analog recording I, for one, have ever heard. Take a look at those songs, in that particular order... No Quarter with a musical transition directly into Disgustipated. Awesome. On that note, at the beginning of No Quarter, Tool uses a keyboardist in the background for the rolling effect. Damn, probably the best live No Quarter I've ever heard is here. Compound that with the clarity as well as rarity of this gig & it makes for one nice listen. It's hard to believe that a recording came out this good from a gig. I am sure that someday, this recording will become mislabeled as a sound-board -so make sure to always keep source info- as the sound is that good. Interesting as well because Tool seriously fucks with the audience...antagonizing them. The audience doesn't care nor mind as they seem to know very little English.

Tool - 1994 Feb. 26th - Detroit, MI, USA.rar
Notes: For quite a while, this was an extremely rare recording and even at this point it is still rather rare. Not that it matters all that much, not a fantastic recording at all but interesting due to a variety of reasons. Hmm, what's the best way to describe this one? The sound quality isn't bad -- esp. for being sourced from a cassette walkman/recorder. For that, it is pretty good. No brick-walling & decent levels. But on a professional level, it doesn't cut it. Par example; after MJK's quote on Jesus Lizard, the taper's friend turns to him & says "speaking of lizard's, my lizard's paralyzed". However, this recording is very funny with comments like that and some may find it even endearing. Also, for those who have been the State Theatre in Detroit, MI (I've been there about 30 or so times now), there are stairs connecting floor & GA seating. Well, the taper also walked up those as he taped. He's buying beer & talking to people...funny stuff. Although, he is missing Tool while he is doing this. But, for that simple reason, it makes collecting recordings that much more interesting. There is a story here, regarding myself & this show, but is not for this forum....maybe someday. This disc is in one long track. However, there are now split up versions (tracks) of this show that have errors on it which seem to be caused an odd transfer by the guy that came up with this gig.
Maynardism: "I don't know if you're aware of it or not but tonight, St. Andrews, Jesus Lizard's playing. So I'll try to make this as quick as possible so we can get over there & enjoy our favorite band. But, while we're all here, it'll be much better over there"

Tool - 1994 Feb. 18th - New York City, NY.rar
Notes: Very good recording. So much so that this has made it's way onto a commercial, non-silver-disc (colored CD-R) bootleg called 'Dragging Me Down'. I think the taper must've been relatively near the speaker as the sound is very clear. However, it is also a little far away - the crowd is slightly noticeable with talking & whatnot. Within the first minute, you can hear someone say 'look out, someone needs help'. There are numerous MP3 sourced versions of this show floating around in the trading pool, so make sure you ask & trust who you get this from... a casualty of the Napster generation. The taper has a couple issues like moving the microphone a little as well as moving positions during Intolerance. You can hear it as he does. The performance is really standard fair. All in all, I suppose Tool fans are lucky to be able to hear the show well over a decade after the performance. I am fairly certain that this recording is also incomplete. There should be at least Jerk-Off & Crawl Away somewhere on the setlist due to the time period and also by comparing this setlist to comparable other performances. Perhaps one day we will know for sure.

Maynardism
'Something kind of odd happened to me yesterday, happened to all of us actually. We were at our hotel. When we went to go in to the bar they said that we had to tuck our shirts in. And then we went to another bar and we couldn't get in because we didn't have a collar on the shirt that we were wearing. Some kind of funny piece of extra fabric somewhere made a difference somehow. And I remembered that this is a very, very fundamentalist, religious part of the country. And although I wouldn't consider myself an actual practicing Christian, I would think that the ideals set forth by the original people are pretty true - Follow your heart, trust your intuition, and feel, then know that that force out there that is based on love which is unconditional. Unconditional. Unconditional. Without judgement. And that we're all connected, we're all from the same source. So, No, I won't tuck my shirt in.'

I like to cut things up. That's why most of the intro's/interludes were cut into separate tracks. I also think it does them justice and makes it easier to skip to the actual songs if you just want those.* Awesome show, but not much 'Maynardism': it doesn't get any better then a "Good e-ve-ning dutch personsss!' and 'We had a new album come out, recently. That's why we're here. To tell you all about it. It's called 10,000 Days. This is a song off the album'.* I fucked up changing discs: I was too early and missed a few seconds of Lateralus. With his permission I used a patch from Niek's excellent recording (thanks!) to fill the gap.
Notes - by: Galen:
Surprisingly, this recording is really quite clean. Surprisingly. With the low cost version of the CSB microphones & the compression of the ATRAC style of mini disc it is rather a feet to have a recording come out like this. Perhaps it was luck, perhaps it was skill, perhaps it was placement, perhaps it was all things considered. Although this may not be the greatest, technically speaking source for this performance it is definitely deserving of a place in your collection. Other than that, standard performance, standard vibe & standard, standard, standard.

Tool - Manchester New Hampshire August 2nd 2009 {FLAC}
Heres the show I recorded in Manchester the other night, nothing close to AMAZEMENT. Im gonna go out on a limb for a moment, please hear me out. This was the sixth time Ive seen them in three years ( 5th show recorded ). Im so pissed off right now and I think other Tool fans would agree. The same songs now for two years, and nothing different at all on this tour. Cmon, anything off , Aenema or undertow would be great. Instead of the long ass interludes between songs and the drum ext. in . We saw it all in 2006 and 2007. Also when you listen to this, they wernt even in key with eachother, almost trying to rush through the show. You know what? I would much rather see them take the stage with no light show, no backdrops, just them playing some great songs that havent been played in a long time. My wife and I were so Pissed we left before Vicaroius was even played. Sorry heard many times, so this is for the collectors. I hope you enjoy, and for the people who saw them for the first time, I hope you enjoyed it.

11. Flood
12. Aenema
13. Soundscape 3
14. Lateralus
15. Soundscape 4
16. Vicarious
notes: IMO, my best Tool recording to date. Adam's talk box didn't work during Jambi, he hits something on his pedal board, then plays. Flood rocked, as usual. Maynard is a pussy for not singing at the end of Vicarious...what an anti-climatic way to end a show.

WAV(16/44)>Wavepad(tracking, left track only since it didnt peak quite as bad, made into stereo)>TRacks(mastering)>WAV>FLAC
Location: way too close to the right stack (20 feet or so)
Taper: thePhool Status: can shareRemaster notes: I did take only the left channel of the raw file and then lowered the loudest screams, cut out some of the talking between songs, and shortened the intro and outro. thats about it, seems cleaner to me, a bit less abrasive an experience imo. Jambi still ruff as I was being tossed around so much.

08 (featuring Patrick from the Black Keys)(long break of silence is kindof a "hush" tease where all four band members stood in front of the stage as in the "hush" video, but no notes of the song were played.)09 Vicarious (with extended intro)
Notes: as stated first and foremost, i was way too close to the stacks causing this recording to be quite bassy and brickwalled. I tried to clean it up as best i could in mastering but, whatever. If anyone is interested in the uncut/unmastered original wav file to try your own mastering or cleaning up of this capture, email me and i'll post a link on Megaupload and send it to ya. That being said, i must admit that i sacrificed the quality to get closer to the stage to enjoy the show, sorry.I nestled into my spot early in the day around 3pm, probably about 75 feet from the stack. i thought it to be a pretty good spot but by the time incubus came on i was shoved forward to about 50 feet from the stack. well, after incubus' crowd cleared a bit the Tool crowd was well on its way to packing in. by this time i had made friends with most of the people around me, and had already been fed some doses back when incubus was starting. the crowd was very anxious in the time waiting for tool to start, and my position had been pushed closer still. i made the choice to stay where i was rather then leave my friends for a spot further back. by this time, i knew i was too close for a good capture but the dead-head chemistry kept me close to the stage (worth it at the time the light show was amazing). also security was pretty lax, so at this point im sure there will be better sources to come (i hope).I tried not to speak much but, well, with my friends all around and my body full of beers and ect, it was impossible to stay totally quiet, so you'll hear me (never singing tho) and my friends discussing the show and guessing songs throughout. At the start of the show the spot all around us became a mosh pit. you'll hear me being shoved around and making some comments about it. finally after two or three songs the crowd calmed down and i was able to stand more still and enjoy the show before me.On a personal note: I was hoping for a little more from the setlist. while excited to see Flood and with the black keys drummer as guest, it still was the same carry-over set from the 07 tour with jambi to start and vicarious to end. But perhaps more tapers will capture the rest of the 09 tour and there will be some surprises for us. pretty standard set tho at this show. Finally, once again sorry for the quality, i hope this wont be the only source from this show, (i hardly see how it could be) but if it is, well then this is what it felt like to be 20 feet from the band and stage on their first show in nearly 2 years. I hope you can enjoy it for what it is, i know i did.
*****DO NOT SELL*******
normally i would ask that you not encode to mp3 for trading but, the quality is really nothing to preserve here, so, do whatever the hell you want, you will anyways.

Notes: Tool was in the 8:30 to 10 slot at Lollapalooza on one of the main stages. They played the complete set of songs that they have been playing on this short summer tour, minus 'Lost Keys'. No special guests unlike the rest of the summer tour. It was windy this evening, so you hear some rustling as a result. But I was close to the source, so the sound was not affected greatly IMHO. I did some minor EQ'ing (see notes below) in CEP prior to amplifying and dithering. No fades or EQ besides that noted below. EQ Notes: Gentle high cut preset - 30 band EQ - Accuracy: 1000 points - Range: 36 dB - Master Gain: 0 dB Gentle low boost preset - 30 band EQ - Accuracy: 1000 points - Range: 36 dB - Master Gain: -1 dB Amplify 5 dB Archive: Master WAV was archived @ 24-bit/44.1kHz and FLAC'd with cue sheet.
